1. Start with something students can demonstrate

For this exercise, replace a broad topic such as “leaves” with a specific outcome: “Students will group leaf photographs by one visible feature and explain their grouping using observations.” That gives you a concrete task to inspect in the draft.

Use the brief below as a planning example. Change the grade, materials, and expectations to suit your curriculum; the grade label is an illustrative choice, not a claim of standards alignment.

If the opening discussion runs long, shorten the number of whole-class examples before cutting the individual assessment. Decide that contingency in advance and write it into your teaching copy.

4. Review accuracy, objective alignment, and classroom fit

Use the following editorial checklist as a practical acceptance test. Mark each item “ready” or “revise,” and edit the underlying task when it fails.

  • Factual accuracy: Check terminology and answer notes against your approved teaching materials. Remove unsupported species labels or explanations that the photographs cannot establish.
  • Objective alignment: Ask whether the activities and exit task require grouping and explanation. A colouring task alone would not demonstrate this example objective.
  • Curriculum alignment: Compare the actual activity with the exact standard you supplied. Treat an AI-generated “aligned” label as a claim to inspect.

For this example, try a sentence starter such as “I grouped these together because both have ___.” Offer fewer photographs at first or let students rehearse their explanation orally. For an extension, ask students to sort the same set using another feature and explain what changed.

Describe learning needs in general classroom terms when writing the brief. Follow your school’s approved process for any student information; this sample does not require names, personal records, or identifiable work.

Request revisions explicitly: “Keep the grouping-and-explanation objective. Provide one version with a visual word bank and one extension using a second sorting rule. Identify what changed in each version.” Check that each version still gives you evidence of the intended skill.
